Todd Lyons criticizes AOC and Omar following the outrage over the Minneapolis ICE shooting

ICE-related Shootings Ignite Widespread Protests

Following the fatal shooting of a woman by an ICE agent in Minnesota, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons responded to criticism from Democratic Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar. This incident has spurred significant backlash.

Lyons expressed his concerns on “America’s Newsroom,” suggesting that some elected officials have exaggerated the situation: “Unfortunately, some elected officials have been…” he remarked, noting the “Gestapo” comparisons and accusations of kidnapping and arresting American citizens that surfaced when he took his position in March.

The controversy erupted after an ICE officer shot a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis, who reportedly tried to run the agent over with her car. Video footage captured the scene, showing the vehicle stopping on a residential street as ICE agents approached. The woman, identified as Good, told the agents to “take a detour” before she attempted to flee, which led to the shooting.

The incident has drawn furious responses from various quarters, particularly from academics who labeled the situation severe and called for Nuremberg-style trials for the agents involved. During a recent rally, Ocasio-Cortez and Omar condemned the shooting, labeling it as “murder,” with Omar dubbing it an act of “terrorism.” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also expressed his outrage, insisting that ICE should be expelled from the city.

In the wake of the shooting, Lyons stated that the incident could have been avoided and emphasized that problems could be resolved with better cooperation between local and federal authorities. He cautioned against public interference in law enforcement operations, arguing that it often leads to dangerous outcomes.
