Hillary Clinton Calls ICE-Involved Shooting a Murder
On Wednesday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asserted that Renee Nicole Goode was “murdered” following her shooting by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis.
“Last night, thousands of Minnesotans gathered in the icy darkness where ICE agents killed Renee Goode to protest her murder,” Clinton wrote on X, sharing photos of mourners and demonstrators holding candles and anti-ICE signs the following morning.
“Against this administration’s lawlessness, we must unite. They are steering America cruelly, and we stand against it,” she criticized the Trump administration.
Clinton’s remarks resonate with a rising number of progressive Democrats labeling the shooting a “murder.” In contrast, the Trump administration has described the events leading to the shooting as an act of “domestic terrorism” against its agents.
Good was inside her car when ICE agents approached her vehicle on a snow-covered street in a residential neighborhood. Footage indicated that she was ordered out before the car seemingly reversed, and she was shot shortly thereafter. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem claimed that officers had been “stalking and disrupting” Good throughout the day, mentioning she had “a weapon in her car” and reportedly tried to run over an officer.
Progressive New York congresspeople Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Dan Goldman, as well as Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar and others, have branded the shooting a murder.
Goldman remarked, “It was a complete murder. This officer needs to be fired and prosecuted based on the video evidence.”
In early January, federal law enforcement intensified their focus on the city as investigations uncovered extensive coronavirus-era fraud schemes worth potentially up to $9 billion, involving many in the state’s Somali community.
The White House expressed its intention to support local authorities post-shooting, yet President Trump, in an interview with the New York Times, characterized Goode’s actions as “egregious,” suggesting she attempted to use her car as a weapon against ICE. He described scenes where she was “screaming” and “obstructing,” ultimately concluding that the officer acted in self-defense.
Comments were disabled on Clinton’s posts, a usual protocol for her X Messages, but she faced criticism for this decision, with detractors labeling her a “coward.” Following her loss to Trump in 2016, some concluded that she would “never become president.”
In the wake of the shooting, some Democrats are considering financial freezes and possible impeachment for Noem.
A social media user questioned Clinton’s resolve, suggesting, “If you believe this, get in your car and try to stop ICE on the street! If not, your message is… don’t use your car to try to stop ICE.”
The FBI is currently investigating the shooting incident.
