Kimmel Criticizes Trump Over Minneapolis Shooting, White House Responds
Jimmy Kimmel has taken aim at President Donald Trump regarding the fatal shooting of a woman by a federal officer in Minneapolis, prompting a strong reaction from the White House.
During his show, Kimmel played a statement from Jacob Frey, the Democratic Mayor of Minneapolis, who demanded that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents cease operations in the city.
Kimmel expressed his disbelief, asking, “Why would ABC allow such gross depravity on its network?” He held up a red shirt featuring the provocative slogan, “Donald J. Trump is going to kill you.”
“This maniac isn’t just harming people overseas,” Kimmel stated. “Today, ICE agents shot and killed an unarmed 37-year-old woman during an operation in Minneapolis. They claim they’re there to protect us.”
The late incident’s description by President Trump drew Kimmel’s ire, who further shared a clip of Frey’s remarks. Frey had declared, “They’re trying to report this as an act of self-defense. I saw the video, and let me be clear: that’s nonsense! An agent recklessly wielded his authority, and someone lost their life because of it.” He urged, “ICE, get these individuals out of Minneapolis!”
Kimmel chimed in, showcasing another shirt that read, “Kick the motherfucker out of MPLS.” His remarks have since gone viral, sparking considerable critique on social media and from the Trump team’s Rapid Response account.
In their pushback, the account stated, “Jimmy Kimmel is suggesting that Trump is telling ICE to kill Americans. Why would ABC permit such deeply troubling content?”
The woman who died has been identified as Renee Nicole Macklin Goode from Colorado. Critics of ICE challenge the Department of Homeland Security’s assertion that she attempted to run over an officer during the incident.
