Ali Larter Reflects on Her Move to Idaho

Ali Larter is surprised that it’s already been five years since her family relocated to Sun Valley, Idaho. In a recent conversation with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the “Dinners on Me” podcast, she recounted how her neighbors greeted her with what she described as “disrespect.” She joked that they might acknowledge her if she were to shoot a moose, implying that her star power wasn’t recognized initially. Over time, however, she feels that natural connections have formed in the community.

Larter and her comedian husband, Hayes MacArthur, made the move to prioritize their children’s well-being. “We enjoy being around kids,” she noted, explaining that their social circle now largely includes families and their children.

Larter expressed how she’s embraced this lifestyle, stating, “We don’t really feel like having just adult dinners. We love having families over and watching kids run around.” The 49-year-old actress reflected on this life change, exclaiming that it’s hard to believe half a decade has passed since they settled there. “It’s amazing,” she added.

She reflected on the significance of their decision, emphasizing that it felt genuine and led to positive developments in their lives. “We put our kids first,” she said, reinforcing that this was their main priority in the move.

During the pandemic, Larter noted that they had briefly returned to California for two months, but with schools operating online, they decided to enroll their daughter in Idaho where classes were held in person. “It was crucial for us to get her that kindergarten experience and socialize with peers,” she explained.

While staying in Idaho, Larter connected with wonderful families, enjoying outdoor activities like skiing and spending quality time with her own family. Upon returning to Los Angeles, where she’s lived for two decades, she realized the many demands placed on actors in such a bustling city. “There’s always something happening,” she remarked. “We felt overwhelmed by aspects of life that no longer served us. We wanted a simpler existence, where we could focus on our children.”

Larter is currently in Texas, playing the role of Angela Norris, Billy Bob Thornton’s ex-wife, in “The Landman.” It seems she’s found a balance, blending her professional commitments with a lifestyle centered around family.
