Miami Dolphins Fire Head Coach Mike McDaniel
New information has emerged about the Miami Dolphins’ decision to let go of head coach Mike McDaniel.
Team owner Stephen Ross announced on Thursday that the franchise would be moving forward without their head coach. “After a careful postseason evaluation and extensive discussion, we determined that our organization requires comprehensive change,” Ross stated. “This morning, I informed Mike McDaniel that he is being relieved of his position as head coach.”
Ross expressed appreciation for McDaniel’s contributions, saying, “I love Mike and would like to thank him for his hard work, dedication, and the energy he brought to our organization. Mike has an incredibly creative football mind and his passion for the game and our players was evident every day. I wish him and his family the best of luck in the future.”
Barry Jackson from the Miami Herald reported that McDaniel was “shocked” by the decision, especially following a recent meeting with Ross. “McDaniel was informed this morning. This came as a shock to Mike. His camp fully expected him to stay. Ross made the decision to make the change after evaluating the situation,” Jackson wrote on social media.
“Dolphins players have informed me that Mike has had exit meetings with players over the last few days to discuss offseason plans and potential roles for next season. So this surprised a lot of people. It probably shouldn’t have, but it did. But it’s no one’s fault. This is life in the NFL. Things change, and teams have to do what’s best for them.”
As a Dolphins fan, I have to say, I’ll miss Mike. I really thought he would at least get another season. Good luck, Captain.
