Kate Hudson Addresses Criticism of New Film
In a recent interview, Kate Hudson spoke about the backlash surrounding her latest movie, “Son San Bleu.” The film, which features her alongside Hugh Jackman, is inspired by the real-life couple who created a Neil Diamond tribute band called Lightning and Thunder. Hudson shared her thoughts with a media outlet but expressed uncertainty about the controversy, stating, “Honestly, I don’t know either. Out of respect for the filmmakers, I’m not the right person to talk about it.”
Hudson portrayed Claire “Thunder” Sardina, while Jackman played Mike “Lightning” Sardina. Despite the movie’s commercial success, Mike’s biological children, Michael Jr. and Angelina, have voiced significant dissatisfaction with it.
In a December 2025 conversation with the Daily Mail, they discussed their grievances, mentioning they were paid $30,000 as consultants but felt Mike Jr. was intentionally omitted from the narrative. He stated, “All those interviews that these monsters have done on national television, they never mention me, because I’m my father’s only son,” adding that he felt sidelined, despite his influence on his father.
Angelina echoed this sentiment, asserting that while the film tells a “beautiful story,” it diverged from reality. “I think that’s what makes me angry because it’s a lie,” she remarked. In contrast, Claire, Mike’s widow, along with his two children from a previous marriage, Dana and Rachel, have supported the film.
Mike Jr. expressed a desire for the authentic story to be revealed. He went on to say, “I want the real story to come out, and I want it to be used with truth and dignity.” His frustration stemmed from what he saw as a misappropriation of his father’s legacy, stating that the film undermined their family’s experiences for the profit of others.
While Hudson didn’t respond directly to Mike Jr.’s comments, she did share her appreciation for Claire. “I’m so happy to have gotten to know Claire, who is such a wonderful woman, and she’s so happy with the film,” she said.
In recognition of her performance, Hudson received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in “Son San Bleu,” which premiered in December 2025.
