Trump to Host Oil Companies Discussing Venezuelan Investment
President Donald Trump is set to invite 17 oil firms to the White House on Friday to explore investment possibilities aimed at revitalizing Venezuela’s oil infrastructure.
Officials from the White House mentioned to Breitbart News that the attendees will include major companies like Chevron, Exxon, Conoco Phillips, and others such as Halliburton and Shell. The meeting is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET in the Cabinet Room and will feature Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
White House press secretary Taylor Rogers commented, “Following President Trump’s announcement of a significant energy deal with Venezuela, U.S. oil companies will meet to discuss potential investments that could restore Venezuela’s oil infrastructure.”
She added, “Thanks to President Trump, the American people, energy companies, and the Venezuelan populace will greatly benefit from new investments in Venezuela’s oil sector.”
Just hours after U.S. forces detained former dictator Nicolas Maduro in Caracas, President Trump shared at a Mar-a-Lago press conference that the U.S. would take charge of Venezuela pending a “proper transition of power.” He emphasized that American oil firms would work on rebuilding the country’s “horribly broken” oil infrastructure.
“As we all know, the Venezuelan oil industry has been in a state of bankruptcy for an extended period, barely producing compared to what it could be,” he remarked.
He further explained, “We’re going to bring in a very large American oil company, the biggest in the world, to invest billions into fixing our distressed oil infrastructure and help generate profits for the country.”
Additionally, President Trump announced on Tuesday that Venezuela would transfer between 30 million to 50 million barrels of “high-grade, sanctioned oil” to the United States.
“This oil will be sold at market prices and managed specifically by me, the President, ensuring that the funds benefit both the people of Venezuela and the United States,” he asserted.
