Stefon Diggs was involved in a lawsuit that raised concerns about his Super Bowl ambitions, but those worries seem to have subsided now.
The wide receiver for the New England Patriots is facing serious allegations, including felony charges of strangulation and suffocation, along with misdemeanor assault and battery claims.
While Diggs was initially slated to appear in court on January 23—just two days prior to the AFC Championship Game—his hearing has now been postponed to February 13, which is five days after Super Bowl LX.
According to a court filing from Diggs’ attorney, the alleged victim was engaged in a “pre-scheduled professional assignment” on the hearing date, January 23, 2026.
A woman reported to the Dedham Police on December 16 that two weeks earlier, while working as a private chef for Diggs, a dispute over payment escalated when a man entered her bedroom. She claimed that Diggs hit her in the face. When she attempted to push him away, he allegedly used his elbow to try to strangle her, leading to a struggle where she felt she might faint.
An officer, Kenneth J. Ellis, wrote that Diggs pushed her onto the bed and dismissed her claims of not being paid. The woman sought compensation for a week in November when Diggs had guests and failed to pay her. After leaving the Dedham home, she returned on December 9 to collect her belongings. At that point, Diggs introduced her to his assistant, indicating she needed to sign a non-disclosure agreement in order to get paid, which she did not sign.
Ellis noted that the woman hesitated to file charges initially but expressed her intention to do so a few days ago.
The Patriots have acknowledged the ongoing situation, with the 32-year-old receiver denying the allegations against him.
Another teammate, Christian Barmore, is also facing legal issues and is set to appear in court on February 3, just days before the Super Bowl, on charges relating to an assault on a woman he was involved with back in August.
In an additional allegation against Barmore, the accuser claims he took her phone as she attempted to leave his residence. When she tried to call for assistance, he allegedly threw her to the ground and physically restrained her.
David Meyer is said to be representing both Diggs and Barmore.
