Ex-Disney actor Matt Prokop faces charges for possessing child pornography

Former child actor Matt Prokop, who gained fame from the Disney film “High School Musical 3,” has been arrested in Texas on several charges, including possession of child pornography. He was apprehended in Victoria County on December 24, as per local jail officials.

Prokop, now 35, faces four misdemeanor charges: one for breaching a bail or protective order, another for evading arrest or detention, and two for resisting arrest, search, or transportation. In addition, he has outstanding warrants related to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a dating violence situation.

His latest legal troubles include a second-degree felony charge for possessing child pornography. This arrest marks a troubling chapter following prior allegations made by actress Sarah Hyland during their relationship, which lasted for five years before ending in 2014.

Hyland, known for her role on “Modern Family,” accused Prokop of both verbal and physical abuse while they were together. Court documents from 2014 detail instances of Prokop physically assaulting her, such as slamming her into a car and choking her during an argument. The situation escalated with alleged threats to her pet and damage to her property when Hyland attempted to end the relationship. Hyland eventually received a restraining order against him after seeking help from co-star Julie Bowen.

The pair initially met in 2008 at an audition for “High School Musical 3” and later appeared together in the Disney film “Geek Charming.” More than a decade later, Hyland has expressed that the scars from that relationship still linger.

Hyland, now married to Wells Adams, discussed the lasting impact of domestic violence in her more recent interviews, emphasizing that such experiences don’t just fade away. They leave behind emotional wounds that can haunt a person indefinitely. “I don’t think any woman will ever fully heal from that wound,” she said, reflecting on her past.
