Doc Rivers Calls Minneapolis ICE Shooting “Straight Up Murder”
On Friday, Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers voiced strong criticism regarding the recent ICE shooting in Minneapolis, labeling it as “straight up murder.” The incident involved an ICE agent who reportedly shot and killed a woman after she allegedly drove her car toward him.
According to reports, the Department of Homeland Security claimed the woman “turned her car into a weapon.” Investigators noted that the ICE officer fired in self-defense. Footage, captured by the officer, apparently shows Renee Goode accelerating her SUV at him, a two-ton vehicle, which raises significant concerns about the situation.
In Rivers’ view, this was a clear case of murder. He expressed sadness over the tragic outcome, suggesting that the woman wanted to return home but was unable to. He didn’t hold back on his thoughts about the broader implications, calling the entire ICE situation a “travesty.”
The victim, Renee Goode, was married to Rebecca Brown Goode. Reports indicate that Rebecca was visibly upset after the shooting, mentioning that she had advised Renee to move the vehicle that was allegedly interfering with ICE operations.
In a poignant moment captured on camera, Rebecca expressed, “I let her get down here. It’s my fault,” reflecting a deep sense of guilt and frustration.
According to other sources, Renee and Rebecca lived in a socially active community in south Minneapolis, characterized by tree-lined streets and symbols of social justice, including LGBTQ+ flags. Their son attended a charter school that prides itself on a social justice curriculum.
Rivers has been vocal about his opposition to ICE’s actions long before this incident. He previously criticized ICE arrests in Chicago, expressing deep concern about their impact on communities and suggesting that such actions are not reflective of the values of the nation.
