Mother Demands Her Son: Secretary Celebrated as Hero After Parent Reportedly Arrives at School Armed

Michigan Middle School Incident

A middle school secretary in Michigan has been recognized as a hero after a restricted parent arrived at the school on January 6 with a loaded gun and allegedly attempted to force his way inside.

Maria Scott, the secretary at Romulus Middle School, described the situation involving Shauntez Gregory. Police indicated that his agitated demeanor and tone immediately raised her concerns.

“He started yelling at me, and I knew something wasn’t right. He claimed he was there to get his son,” Scott recounted.

According to reports, Scott had dealt with Gregory before. He had been expelled after an incident involving attempts to kidnap his son from his ex-wife. Previously, Scott noted that Gregory had always been calm during their interactions.

“Usually, he’s very composed; he’d ring the bell, and if he wasn’t allowed in, he’d just leave. But this time was different,” she explained.

Upon realizing Gregory was armed, Scott activated the intercom, locking down the school and contacting authorities. Romulus police later reported that Gregory allegedly fired seven shots outside but did not target the building itself. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

During the chaos, Scott expressed her desire for everyone to return home safely.

“I looked at a picture of my boys on my desk, and it hit me that I wanted to go home that night, just like everyone else here,” she shared.

Prosecutor Kim Worthy has charged Gregory with multiple offenses, including making a terroristic threat and carrying a concealed weapon. Worthy termed the scenario a “parent’s nightmare.”

“When he was denied entry to see his son, he allegedly fired shots near the school. Thankfully, the immediate alert from the school allowed police to respond quickly and apprehend him without any harm,” she stated.

Gregory has been arraigned and is set for a probable cause conference on January 20 and a preliminary hearing on January 27.

Meanwhile, Scott has been celebrated as a hero. “My six-year-old told me that someone in the cafeteria called me a hero, and I thought, well, we all have a bit of superhero in us,” she said.

The Romulus Police Department was contacted for a comment but had not responded as of the latest updates.
