Secret Service looks into Radio DJ at UMass Lowell's call to 'kill JD Vance'

A volunteer radio show host has stepped down after it was revealed that authorities were aware of a post on the progressive social media app Blue Sky stating an intention to kill Vice President J.D. Vance.

The account identified as hanslopez.bsky.social echoed a threatening sentiment: “It’s simple. We’re going to kill J.D. Vance.” This was in response to another user, who had commented that “JD Vance thinks Britain and France are America.” A rather intense exchange, to say the least.

More about WUML: the station has been part of the community for over 60 years, supposedly offering a platform not just for students at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, but for the broader Lowell area as well.

Founded back in 1952, WUML is described as a nonprofit FM station run entirely by students, funded by the university. It broadcasts both on traditional airwaves and online.

Upon learning of the alarming post, the university reached out to law enforcement. A subsequent statement shared with Fox News Digital noted that the Lowell Police Department swiftly coordinated with the FBI, Secret Service, and the Haverhill Police to ensure everything was handled properly.

The statement clarified that the involved individual had been contacted and that an assessment was completed in partnership with federal agencies. Thankfully, officials determined that there was no immediate threat posed.

The Secret Service did confirm its awareness of the post, while the Haverhill Police suggested contacting the FBI, which chose to remain silent on the matter.

“Lowell College takes threats of violence involving our community seriously,” the statement asserted. It emphasized that such comments contradict both democratic principles and the values upheld by the university. Following this incident, the individual has resigned from the volunteer position at WUML and has also removed the posts from their Blue Sky account.

Interestingly, the university pointed out that the person responsible for the remarks was an alumnus. Moreover, several posts from their Blue Sky account, including those specifically aimed at Vance, have been taken down.
