Neighbors React to Surgeon’s Arrest in Ohio Double Murder Case

Residents in Illinois are still reeling from the news that a local surgeon has been charged with the fatal shooting of his ex-wife and her husband in Ohio. Many expressed disbelief, struggling to grasp the gravity of the situation.

Geralind Kolarik was among those affected. “I can’t believe he did something like this,” she shared in a conversation with Fox News. “The police were searching his apartment thoroughly. I mean, they were looking for evidence, maybe even checking for footprints in the snow or something, or signs inside.” She noted seeing officers taking various items out, suggesting they were gathering crucial evidence.

Kolarik recalled how law enforcement had been in and out for the past two days. “They came from Columbus, Ohio,” she said, reflecting on the intensity of the investigation.

Kolarik’s interactions with Michael McKee, 39, the accused surgeon, had been limited and mostly benign; she remembered meeting him at the pool and attending a barbecue with him. “Honestly, I had no idea he would be capable of committing such a crime. It shocked many of us in the building,” she added, further emphasizing the surprise felt by the community.

McKee’s arrest on suspicion of murdering his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, and her husband, Spencer Tepe, is particularly disturbing given the details emerging about the case. According to the indictment, investigators tied McKee to a vehicle seen near the Tepe residence just before the tragedy and found later in Rockford, Illinois. This vehicle was registered to him, providing a link that led to his apprehension.

Even though Kolarik hadn’t interacted closely with him, she recognized McKee immediately when shown a photo by a reporter. “I said, ‘Oh my god, I know this guy.’ He always seemed quiet and kind, so I was really taken aback. I always thought there was no way he could get so upset. I mean, it’s crazy how emotions can take over, especially in complicated relationships,” she reflected.

As the investigation continues, McKee now faces upgraded charges, including two counts of aggravated premeditated murder, a serious escalation that adds to the ongoing shock within the community.
