Zoe Welsh's last words during her assault by a criminal

A teacher from North Carolina, Zoe Welsh, tragically explained the details of an attack shortly before her passing. Reports indicate that she was assaulted in her home by a homeless individual named Ryan Camacho, 36.

During her final moments, Welsh spoke to a 911 operator, describing the harrowing incident. “A man just broke in through a window. He’s homeless. I saw him at Fred Fletcher’s park,” she relayed after the alarming break-in in Raleigh at around 6:30 a.m. on January 3.

With urgency in her voice, she added, “He’s at home now. He hit me with a brick. He hit me with a brick. I’m on the bedroom floor.”

Despite the dispatcher trying multiple times to confirm if she was still on the line, Welsh’s responses were not forthcoming.

Camacho, who has a long history of criminal activity with six arrests in the last four years, is facing charges of felony murder and robbery related to Welsh’s death. He has yet to enter a plea and is due in court again on January 26.

At the time of the incident, Camacho was involved in a plea deal for another matter concerning his girlfriend. His criminal record includes a 2016 case where he damaged a neighbor’s car window while trying to reach his own vehicle, for which he later pleaded guilty.

Previously, he had been accused of stalking a family, but those charges were dropped, and he served a short prison term of two and a half months, followed by mental health treatment.

In 2017 alone, police arrested him four times, leading to seven nonviolent misdemeanor charges. Moreover, in 2019, Camacho faced eight felonies when he allegedly fired shots into a woman’s residence, although some charges were dismissed in a plea deal.

He received a minimum two-year prison sentence, followed by nine months of supervised release. Camacho later returned to prison due to suspected violations and ended up serving five and a half years overall for the incident.
