Mark Brnovich, Former Arizona Attorney General, Passes Away at 59

Mark Brnovich, who previously served as Arizona’s 26th Attorney General, died on Monday at the age of 59. His family announced the news with heavy hearts, describing him as a dedicated advocate for justice and a beloved father, husband, son, and brother.

In a statement, a family representative expressed their sorrow, saying, “We are heartbroken by this loss and deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from so many wonderful people across our state and country. The family requests privacy during this difficult time. Memorial arrangements will be announced as soon as they are ready.”

Katie Connor, Brnovich’s former press secretary, shared with the Associated Press that he died of a heart attack. He was appointed by President Donald Trump as U.S. ambassador to Serbia in March, but that nomination was withdrawn later in October.

Brnovich had previously run for the Senate in 2022 without success and had been Arizona’s attorney general for eight years. He was known for his long career in public service, leaving an impact on many.

Several officials and senators paid tribute to him following his passing. Former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey extended his condolences to Brnovich’s family, noting, “It was an honor to campaign with and work with Mark Brnovich. His passion for law, justice, and victims were hallmarks of his career in public service.” Ducey also highlighted Brnovich’s humor and positivity, which resonated with those fortunate enough to be his friends.

Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) also expressed his sympathies, saying he was praying for Brnovich’s wife, Susan, and their two daughters. Brnovich will surely be remembered for his contributions and the legacy he leaves behind.
