Timeless LeBron James shines in Lakers victory against Hawks

LeBron James Defies Expectations in Back-to-Back Performance

Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick didn’t anticipate LeBron James would play in the second leg of back-to-back games on Tuesday. After all, the man is 41 years old and in his 23rd season. But, as it turns out, James had different plans.

His morning routine was quite the spectacle. It started with waking up and diving into a cold bathtub. After that came the hyperbaric chamber, a quick nap, and then some leg therapy with Normatec while catching up on EA Sports PGA Tour. After those essential rituals, he took a shower, got dressed, and headed to Crypto.com Arena.

When he arrived, his regular routine kicked in: activation, treatment, stretching, lifting, and mental prep for the game. At one point, he even adjusted his diet.

After finishing all this, James exchanged a glance with his trainer, Mike Mancias. “I said, ‘I think I feel pretty good,'” he recalled. Remarkably, James played in back-to-back games for the first time this season, finishing with an impressive 31 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds. The Lakers beat the Atlanta Hawks 141-116, and his stats included 22 assists along with Luka Doncic—just an explosive comeback for a player known for his incredible skills.

However, this performance stirred a mix of feelings for coach Redick.

You might wonder why, right?

Well, Redick expressed some frustration about how hard James works and how others perceive him. “It’s actually unfortunate,” he noted. “You see how much he cares, and yet certain critics still have negative things to say. It’s just crazy.”

Since entering the league at 18, James has faced scrutiny for everything—whether he shoots too often, whether he cares enough, and now, in his later years, whether he’s too fatigued. It might feel contradictory, this constant criticism, especially given his undeniable dedication.

Redick reacts strongly to this negativity, but James seems to brush it off. “This is my life,” he said. “I hope to impact the people who’ve supported me throughout these years; that’s what really counts.” He emphasizes that his focus is on the people who matter, not the detractors.

Redick emphasized that the day wasn’t out of the ordinary for James. Every game, James gives his all, which is perhaps why he’s still one of the standout players in the NBA even after so many years.

When Redick elaborated on the negativity, he pointed out how envy often drives public reaction. “People don’t get responses by acknowledging greatness. They feel they have to criticize,” he explained, lamenting how often James is knocked down publicly.

Despite his on-court dominance, James acknowledged that the back-to-back games were taking a toll. “Yeah, I can feel it,” he admitted with a smile. It’s a reminder that even the best players feel the effects of their grind.

Before the game, the Lakers held a quick meeting to ensure they didn’t dwell on their previous loss to the Sacramento Kings. They certainly came out strong, outscoring the Hawks significantly, posting 81 points in the first half—their highest this season.

Looking ahead, James admitted he’s “undecided” about whether he can keep playing back-to-back games for the remainder of the season. Reflecting on what motivates him, he stated, “I can’t afford to cheat in the game because of my son. I’ll never do that.” It’s a strong sentiment that possibly underlines his relentless commitment to basketball.

All in all, James may have seemed ageless on the court, but the lingering wear from games is impossible to ignore. And yet, with that same smile, he faces it all, ready for whatever comes next.
