Union Leader Supports Ford Employee’s Exchange with Trump
The head of the autoworkers union has come to the defense of a Ford employee who got involved in a heated exchange with President Donald Trump during his recent visit to a Michigan factory. According to the union, workers deserve respect and should never face offensive language or conduct.
Laura Dickerson, the Vice President and Ford Division Director of the United Auto Workers (UAW), pointed out that workers at the Ford River Rouge plant in Dearborn are proud union members who support free speech. “We stand firmly with our members in safeguarding their voice on the job,” she said.
“The UAW will make sure that our members enjoy the protections laid out in our contracts, which are designed to uphold their jobs and rights,” she added. “No one, including the sitting President of the United States, should subject our workers to foul language or behavior.”
During the event, the worker shouted insults at Trump, who reportedly responded by displaying an obscene gesture and repeating vulgarities.
TJ Sabra, the employee who yelled at the President, has since been suspended from Ford for his remarks, which included calling Trump the “protector of pedophiles.” An online fundraising effort is also pushing for Trump to release more documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.
Stephen Chan, the White House communications director, defended Trump’s reaction, calling Sabra an “enraged madman” who reacted with profanity, and said the president’s response was appropriate.
Sabra claimed he was the one who shouted at Trump and mentioned he was suspended pending an internal investigation. “I have no regrets about criticizing him,” he stated, expressing concern for his future employment and suggesting he was being targeted for embarrassment he caused Trump.
Identifying as politically independent, Sabra remarked that he had never voted for Trump, although he has supported some Republican candidates in the past. He mentioned he was approximately 60 feet away from Trump during the incident and could hear him clearly.
