2026 NFL mock draft: Dante Moore's return to Oregon influences the first round

Dante Moore has just surprised everyone in the NFL world.

Just days after Oregon’s loss to Indiana in the Peach Bowl, Moore revealed his plans regarding the 2026 NFL Draft. He was expected to be at least the No. 2 quarterback in the class, possibly even the No. 2 overall pick. So, it came as a surprise when he announced on Wednesday that he would be returning to Oregon State for another year.

This decision follows Dylan Raiola’s transfer to Oregon State after two seasons at Nebraska. Many speculated that Moore would leave for the NFL, but now Raiola will have to wait until Moore is back on the field.

So, what does this mean for the upcoming NFL Draft?

Here’s a brief look at how things might unfold.

Moore isn’t a choice for the Jets right now, prompting New York to seek other options. Instead of selecting a quarterback, they opted for Abel Reese, a linebacker with potential as a pass rusher. Given that the defense didn’t record a single interception last season, this could be a pivotal addition.

Ty Simpson makes a comeback in the first round

After dropping in the last mock draft, Ty Simpson is working his way back to being a first-round pick with the Los Angeles Rams.

Matthew Stafford may still have a few years left, but Sean McVay might be thinking ahead for when he needs a successor. Bringing in Simpson now to learn from Stafford—the so-called Patrick Mahomes Plan—could be a wise move for the Rams.

Browns secure Shedua Sanders

Cleveland dropped to the No. 6 pick and might miss out on their rookie quarterback.

Instead, they decided to bolster their offensive line and wide receiver positions. Spencer Fano has experience at both tackle positions, giving the new head coach options to better protect the quarterback. Denzel Boston, another acquisition, brings explosive playmaking ability, showcasing his skills both downfield and at the catch point. A look at his first touchdown reception against Rutgers illustrates how he excelled both off the line and during the catch.

What’s up with Trinidad Chambliss?

The only other quarterback eyeing a potential first-round spot is Trinidad Chambliss. The reason he’s not currently in the running seems to be Ole Miss’s intent to appeal the denial of his medical redshirt.

However, with Moore choosing to return to school, this opens the door for Chambliss to slide into the No. 2 quarterback spot…
