Controversy Surrounds Interracial Marriage Among Christian Nationalists
This week, the topic of interracial marriage became a point of discussion among some Christian nationalists, leading controversial pastor Joel Webbon to weigh in and stir the pot further.
Webbon stated, “Intermarriage, while Biblically permissible, is generally contrary to God’s normative design for humanity, nations, and cultures,” in a message shared on X.
Dale Partridge, also a minister, responded, saying, “As a Christian man happily married to a Mexican/Spanish/American woman, I actually agree with Joel Webbon that interracial marriage is not an ‘ideal.’” He adds, “However, I don’t think it’s sinful, and if providence brings two Christians of different ethnic backgrounds together in marriage, it could be a wonderful thing (as it has been for us).”
Partridge cautioned that interracial marriages can introduce additional challenges in family life.
Virgil Walker, a contributor at Blaze TV, expressed a more moderate view. He acknowledged that he doesn’t entirely align with Webbon and Partridge but respects their perspective. “There are consequences within the Christian nationalist movement, and aspects of this ethnocentrism are manifesting,” he shared with BlazeTV host Jason Whitlock.
He further noted, “The issue arises when moral frameworks are forced into the context of ethnicity, claiming that other forms of marriage are less ideal. That’s not what God intended regarding who we are and how we function, including whom we choose to marry.”
Walker believes that those involved are merely taking a position, something he doesn’t find objectionable. “I consider it important for ministers and Christians to clarify what the Bible actually conveys and not allow misinterpretations to dictate conversations,” he remarked.
