Mike McDaniel's job search takes a surprising turn with an interview lined up with the Buccaneers.

Mike McDaniel might soon be making his way to Florida.

After being let go by the Dolphins last week, he’s lined up to meet with the Buccaneers for their open offensive coordinator role during the season opener on Friday, according to various reports.

Fox Sports mentioned McDaniel, noting he sees this as a “great opportunity,” possibly better than taking on a head coaching role, which isn’t looking too promising at the moment.

The Buccaneers’ season has potential this year. Todd Bowles’ team began strong with a 5-1 record, scoring wins against Super Bowl contenders like the Seahawks and 49ers. However, by the end of the season, they finished at 8-9, missing the playoffs.

Due to a downward spiral that culminated in a 3-8 finish, they fell behind the Carolina Panthers in the NFC South, which led to significant coaching changes.

McDaniel has already interviewed for the Detroit Lions’ coveted offensive coordinator role. This recent interest from the Bucs could help him bounce back and demonstrate his value again.

He has previously spoken with the Browns about their head coaching vacancy and is set to talk with the Ravens soon, along with the Falcons and Titans also on his radar.

With only 32 head coach positions in the NFL, it’ll be intriguing to see how a non-premium role pans out.

The Giants are expected to hire John Harbaugh this week, leaving eight positions still available, including the one with McDaniel’s former Dolphins team.

Harbaugh was also considering interviews with the Falcons and Titans, which might signal potential opportunities for someone like McDaniel moving forward.

As for the Browns, they could be viewed as a less desirable option due to salary cap constraints related to Deshaun Watson’s hefty contract and ongoing uncertainty about their quarterback situation.

Last year, rookies Shedur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel shared QB duties, but it remains uncertain if either will secure that role long-term.
