Robert Davi Discusses Hollywood’s Political Climate
Robert Davi has voiced concerns about feeling sidelined in Hollywood due to his support for former President Donald Trump, which began in 2015. He mentioned that this situation appears to persist “to some extent.”
In a conversation with Raymond Arroyo on the “Arroyo Grande” podcast, Davi said, “It’s still a work in progress, but I think it might be getting brighter little by little.” He expressed uncertainty about the industry dynamics, remarking, “You never know exactly where the button will be pressed.”
Davi explained that despite assurances from his manager about potential projects, there’s a constant fear they could be taken away, often for no apparent reason. This has left him wondering about the opportunities he has likely lost due to his political stance, including those he may never even learn about.
Interestingly, he recalled being approached twice to support liberal candidates in the past. “In 2016, some executive came to me and said, ‘If you’re supporting so-and-so right now, put your name on the ticket,'” he shared. Davi’s response? “Why would you do that?”
As a committed conservative, he expressed frustration toward “closed-minded” individuals within the industry. He urged those with influence to be courageous and stand up, suggesting that it could empower others who feel stifled.
Davi also mentioned how fans often reach out, expressing their appreciation for his views on social media.
Quoting Frank Sinatra, he stated that if a member of the Rat Pack supported someone, that person had influence because of their connection. He insisted that celebrities, despite claims to the contrary, do have some impact on the younger generation.
Reflecting on his silence regarding his beliefs, Davi felt it could lead to others feeling even more isolated. He indicated to Arroyo that when fans express disappointment in his political opinions, he reassures them that these views don’t overshadow his past work.
Davi humorously noted his enthusiastic support for films starring Robert De Niro, despite their political differences. “I’m the polar opposite of Robert De Niro, so I’m going to go see any movie he’s in,” he said, adding that he even had his daughter watch De Niro’s 2009 film “Everyone’s Fine” over the holidays, which he felt had a meaningful message.
While watching, he quipped to himself, “I’ll forgive you.”
