Sen. John Fetterman Discusses Party Affiliation on “The Will Cain Show”
During an appearance on FNC’s “The Will Cain Show” Wednesday, Senator John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) shared his reasons for not changing his party affiliation from Republican to Democratic.
Fetterman told host Will Cain that, despite acknowledging that a party switch might impact his standing with the Democratic base, his voting stance would remain unchanged. He stated, “I’m still a Democrat. Even if I switched parties today, my vote wouldn’t really differ much.”
Cain posed a question regarding potential differences in beliefs, asking Fetterman what his biggest disagreement might be with Republicans and why he identifies as a Democrat. Fetterman explained, “I’m just trying to be a voice of reason in a very polarized environment. It’s interesting, really—people approach me to discuss it, whether they’re well-intentioned or not.” He mentioned that many of those who confront him now are Democrats, while noting that his family holds Republican views, and he grew up in a conservative part of Pennsylvania.
He expressed, “I’ve never viewed anyone opposing Fox News or the Republican Party as bad people trying to undermine the Constitution.” He strongly rejected that notion, adding, “My role is to represent Pennsylvania, and while I support certain actions, like a military response regarding Iran, I think it’s necessary for the region. We should stand with Israel and protect our borders.”
Fetterman voiced his refusal to support government shutdowns, particularly those impacting military personnel. He reflected, “Imagine going without pay for 45 days due to a government shutdown—many decisions right now complicate my standing. But I prefer to be straightforward rather than simply go along with what I think people want to hear.”
