Ravens Interview Mike McDaniel for Head Coaching Position
The Ravens announced on Thursday that they have completed interviews with former Dolphins head coach, Mike McDaniel.
McDaniel is the latest candidate in the running for the Ravens’ head coaching position, following the firing of John Harbaugh. It seems there’s a bit of urgency as the Ravens look for a new leader.
Since parting ways with Harbaugh on January 6, the Ravens have lined up several candidates. They’ve interviewed folks like Clint Kubiak, Kevin Stefanski, Vance Joseph, Davis Webb, and Matt Nagy already.
Interestingly, McDaniel becomes the 11th candidate they have spoken with.
During the previous season, he led the Dolphins to a 7-10 record. There were indications that he might get another chance in Miami, but ultimately, he was let go.
In a related note, Dolphins tight end Darren Waller shared on the “Glory Days Podcast” that he seemed to be one of the last people to see McDaniel before his firing. Waller described an encounter just before the news broke. He recalled that McDaniel had expressed a desire to retain him for the following season.
However, shortly after, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross came into the room, and it felt like the discussion was cut short. Waller said, “I looked at Mike, and he was like, ‘Let’s finish this conversation later.’” It seemed like one of those awkward moments that just hang in the air, you know?
Later, Waller left to get a massage at the team facility. When he returned and checked his phone, he discovered that McDaniel had been fired. His reaction? “Damn, this is cold,” he said, noting how abrupt it felt.
Adding to the conversation, comedian Dan Soder, a longtime friend of McDaniel, expressed his thoughts on the situation, pointing out that the Dolphins organization might need to rethink some of their decisions. It’s always fascinating how one moment can change everything in the world of sports.
