Mexican President Rejects U.S. Troops Amid Growing Pressure to Address Cartels

U.S. Pressure on Mexico Regarding Drug Cartels

The U.S. government is increasingly urging Mexico to allow military action against drug cartels, specifically targeting laboratories and key figures involved. However, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum firmly rejects this idea, stating that national sovereignty must be preserved.

Critics of Sheinbaum suggest that she might be protecting the political allies and criminal organizations that supported her rise to power. This situation complicates her ability to satisfy two opposing factions.

In recent comments, Sheinbaum has consistently declared that a U.S. military intervention against drug cartels will not happen during her presidency.

A recent report indicates that U.S. pressure has intensified regarding potential military involvement in Mexico. There are suggestions that the U.S. might collaborate with Mexican forces for operations against drug trafficking, including the use of drones to target fentanyl production facilities.

Despite such reports, Sheinbaum maintains her stance against U.S. military actions. She recently talked to journalists about her conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, focusing on ways to cooperate and strengthen information sharing, rather than military involvement. Sheinbaum firmly stated that the U.S. military has no plans to operate on Mexican soil.

This issue has gained traction following the arrest of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, who is facing federal drug charges in the U.S. In the wake of his capture, President Trump emphasized the need for action regarding drug cartels in Mexico, suggesting they have significant control over the country.
