Predicted Snow and Freezing Temperatures for NFL Divisional Round Matchup Between Texans and Patriots

Texans Encounter Tough Conditions Against Patriots

As the Houston Texans prepare for their AFC Divisional Round playoff matchup against the New England Patriots, they might be in for quite the shock at Gillette Stadium this Sunday.

Having played all their games indoors at NRG Stadium, the Texans will now face gritty outdoor conditions in Foxboro. Weather forecasts suggest temperatures will hover in the low 30s, with wind chills dipping to around 24 degrees Fahrenheit. Snow is also expected, potentially affecting the field and complicating matters for both teams.

This situation marks a notable change from the climate-control setup the Texans are used to. The blend of freezing temperatures, strong winds, and ongoing snowfall may significantly influence the game’s dynamics.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a solid chance of snow beginning in the afternoon, possibly leading to 1 to 2 inches of accumulation. Meanwhile, the Patriots are no strangers to cold weather; they’ve kicked off in frigid conditions in their last six games, achieving a 5-1 record. Their only loss during that stretch occurred during a snowy game against the Buffalo Bills, which, despite light snowfall, stemmed more from their performance issues rather than weather impacts.

On the other hand, the Texans have far less experience in such elements. They have managed to win their cold-weather road games this season, including a recent victory in Pittsburgh. However, their last encounter with snow as a team was back in December 2016, and no current players have that experience on their roster.

Kickoff for this highly anticipated game is scheduled for Sunday, January 18th at 3:00 PM ET.
