Dylan Mulvaney, the transgender influencer who stirred controversy during the 2023 Bud Light campaign, has been cast in the Broadway musical Six, which tells the stories of women throughout history.
This will mark Mulvaney’s debut on Broadway as she takes on the role of Anne Boleyn, who was the second wife of Henry VIII.
The announcement comes over two years after Mulvaney’s collaboration with Bud Light led to a nationwide boycott and a notable decline in the brand’s sales.
The official social media account for the musical shared the news, saying, “We’re humbled to introduce you to our newest Anne Boleyn! Show some royal love to Queen Dylan Mulvaney who joins the cast of #SIXBroadway 5.0 as Anne Boleyn starting February 16th!”
Six retells the narratives of Henry VIII’s six wives through a contemporary pop perspective. Given that many of these women faced execution or divorce, the show highlights their journeys to “reclaim their identities from the shadow of their notorious spouses.”
This casting decision has ignited discussions online, considering that the musical is often celebrated as a female-driven recounting of women’s historical experiences.
Widely recognized as a celebration of feminist themes and women’s history, Six previously focused on maintaining an all-female cast.
The musical won the Tony Award for Best Original Music in 2022.
Mulvaney rose to national fame in April 2023 after posting a video about a Bud Light campaign featuring her image on product packaging, part of an initiative celebrating her first full year of transitioning.
She gained notoriety for her daily social media series, “Days of Girlhood,” where she documented her gender transition.
Reports from January 2024 indicated that Bud Light’s sales plummeted by nearly 30% following the promotional effort.
The situation surrounding Mulvaney and Bud Light has been described as one of the most significant clashes in corporate culture in recent years, ultimately leading to Bud Light losing its status as America’s top-selling beer.
Mulvaney appeared on “The View” in March 2025, where she defended the brand partnership, expressing her love for beer and a lack of concern when she accepted the deal.
Additionally, she spoke on “CBS Mornings,” critiquing the Trump administration’s reversal of transgender-related policies. She stated, “No matter what my passport said, it didn’t change the way I thought about myself because I’m a woman,” referring to the State Department’s cessation of issuing passports with an “X” gender marker alongside “M” and “F.”
