Giants complete agreement to hire John Harbaugh as head coach

The Giants have secured a deal with John Harbaugh, confirming his position as the next head coach, as reported by Ryan Dunleavy.

After parting ways with the Ravens, where Harbaugh spent 18 successful seasons, the Giants were quick to pursue him.

He met with team officials Wednesday at their New Jersey facility but left without finalizing a deal. Nonetheless, discussions continued on making him the 21st head coach in the franchise’s history.

The recruitment included a dinner with owner Chris Mara and general manager Joe Schoen at a Greek restaurant in East Rutherford, further solidifying their interest in Harbaugh.

Owner Tim Saroulos shared that Harbaugh told him, “I’ll be back,” as he prepared to leave for Baltimore.

According to Paul Schwartz, a deal was close as of Wednesday night and could soon be finalized.

The NFL Network noted that the contract is expected to last for five years.

It was reported that signing Harbaugh may cost up to $20 million a year, and the Giants are reportedly prepared to meet that financial commitment.

Harbaugh also decided to cancel meetings with the Falcons and Titans, the other main contenders for his services.

He is anticipated to bring in offensive coordinator Todd Monken along with other assistants from his time in Baltimore, while candidates for defensive leadership remain under consideration.

Harbaugh was let go by the Ravens last week after a missed game-winning field goal contributed to a loss against the Steelers, costing them the AFC North title.

Owner Steve Bisciotti referred to the situation as “the craziest thing,” revealing it caused him distress while Harbaugh provided consolation.

Now, there’s a wave of excitement amongst Giants fans, thrilled about acquiring a premier coach.

The Giants made significant efforts to attract Harbaugh, including a flight from Baltimore to New Jersey on co-owner Steve Tisch’s private jet, which also included a visit with promising quarterback Jackson Dart.

They recently parted ways with Brian Daboll after a tough start to the season, which saw a 2-8 record, marred by late-game turnovers.
