Iran’s supreme leader has claimed that “the Iranian state has triumphed over the United States,” holding President Donald Trump responsible for what he described as a failed effort to reassert American control, which resulted in numerous casualties. He further asserted that the United States has lost its grip on Iran and should now face consequences.
In response to vocal criticisms from foreign leaders directed at Trump, Khamenei utilized social media and state channels over the weekend to accuse the President of causing chaos in Iran, declaring that the country has come out on top against the U.S.
“We hold the President of the United States accountable for the harm, chaos, and slander he has caused the Iranian people,” the supreme leader stated, suggesting that Trump’s actions were intentionally orchestrated. He referred to protests as being instigated by the U.S.
Khamenei made bold assertions regarding Iran’s strength, claiming, “Since the Islamic Revolution, the United States has gradually lost its influence over Iran.” He went on to say that the Iranian state had delivered a significant blow to U.S. provocations.
In a bold declaration, he stated, “The Iranian state has defeated the United States.”
This rhetoric from Khamenei marks an increase in anti-American sentiment, giving the impression that the Iranian government has successfully countered U.S. influence and Trump’s policies. This comes amidst a backdrop of violent protests resulting in significant loss of life.
Recently, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that Iran would teach Trump, whom he described as “delusional” and “arrogant,” a lesson he would not forget. Trump, in turn, labeled Iran as “our enemies,” asserting that U.S. forces would face severe repercussions.
On Friday, senior official Hassan Lakhimpur Azgadi unleashed a verbal assault on Trump, referring to him as an “impure, barbaric yellow dog” who needs to face consequences. He suggested that attacks on U.S. territory could be justified both legally and religiously.
Azgadi has established influence within Iran’s ideological framework and is known for promoting hardline rhetoric against the U.S. This highlights a troubling trend where aggressive language directed at American leadership has become commonplace.
The heightened hostility followed Khamenei’s claim that Trump is likely to be “overthrown” soon.
As the Iranian regime grapples with nearly three weeks of anti-government protests sparked by economic issues and political repression, authorities have responded with communication blackouts, mass arrests, and violent crackdowns—actions that Trump had warned would elicit a U.S. response.
Last week, Trump openly supported the Iranian protesters, tweeting that “Iran is on the brink of freedom,” while also warning that the U.S. and its allies are closely monitoring the regime’s actions.
On Sunday evening, Trump vowed to counter the escalating threats from Iran, indicating that the military was considering “very strong options.” He added that if Iran were to act against the U.S., the response would be unprecedented.
Ali Larijani, a key figure in Iran’s security council, dismissed Trump’s threats during a pro-regime rally, suggesting that he talks too much and should not be taken seriously. He emphasized the resolve of Iranians, indicating they are ready to confront the U.S. and Israel.
Meanwhile, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, a high-ranking cleric, has called for harsher measures against protesters while issuing threats toward Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
As the U.S. government intensifies its warnings, concrete actions are also being taken. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently announced new sanctions targeting senior Iranian officials, accusing them of hastily moving assets abroad amid the unrest.
Simultaneously, the Pentagon confirmed the redeployment of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group to the Middle East, demonstrating a multifaceted U.S. strategy responding to Iranian threats domestically and abroad.
