Tom Brady and the Raiders: A Bold Move in Sin City
Tom Brady might be poised to take a significant risk in Las Vegas.
The Baltimore Ravens have signaled a willingness to fundamentally reshape their team by parting ways with head coach John Harbaugh.
Despite entering the season as one of the favorites in the AFC, Baltimore stumbled due to poor defensive play, questionable coaching decisions, and a series of injuries affecting their star quarterback, Lamar Jackson.
With no contract extension in sight and concerns over Jackson’s history of injuries, his future with the team is uncertain.
In light of this situation, NFL insider Mike Florio suggested a potential deal between the Ravens and the Las Vegas Raiders. Las Vegas holds the top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and is on the lookout for a franchise quarterback to guide their rebuilding efforts.
“The first pick would give the Ravens the chance to target quarterback Fernando Mendoza directly or perhaps trade it for a significant return, considering Jackson’s injury history and status as a two-time MVP,” Florio noted.
Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti recently indicated a firm deadline for reaching an agreement regarding a potential extension with Jackson. This suggests a desire to retain the MVP quarterback, though negotiations, especially as Jackson has opted to represent himself, are typically complex and lengthy.
Florio mentioned Brady’s role in this scenario, highlighting that from the Raiders’ perspective, having Brady as a minority owner plays a crucial role in any trade talks involving Jackson.
The Raiders have the necessary assets and salary cap flexibility to make a serious acquisition. Pairing talented quarterbacks with up-and-coming players like tight end Brock Bowers and running back Ashton Jeanty could make the team attractive to other star talents.
Brady’s involvement makes this an intriguing situation. After a disappointing 2025 season, he’s in a position where taking bold steps could reshape the team’s future.
Bringing in an MVP quarterback could elevate the Raiders from their struggling status to serious Super Bowl contenders. Yet, it remains a risky endeavor, given Jackson’s injuries.
However, when you think about Las Vegas, risk-taking is part of the game.
After all, Brady didn’t become a minority owner to sit back and watch a struggling 3-14 season unfold from a suite. He aims to bring home wins. If trading the No. 1 pick for Jackson could potentially lead to a Super Bowl ring, it would certainly be a power move that would shift dynamics in the AFC West.
If the situation aligns and Jackson is still capable of performing at a high level, maybe taking that chance makes sense.
