On Monday, Izzy Nix shared an emotional post after her husband, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, faced a season-ending ankle injury during the divisional round of the playoffs.
She shared a photo on her Instagram Stories, capturing a moment shortly after the Broncos’ 33-30 overtime victory against the Bills, where Bo sustained a broken right ankle.
“I secretly took this photo because I wanted to remember this moment forever,” Izzy wrote. “Joy followed by heartbreak as I watched my teammates and coaches come to this little nook and sit by Bo. God could have placed us anywhere, and we’re so thankful he chose Denver. He’s the author of Bo’s story, and we can’t wait to see what he has planned for this team — count on us to be in the front row, cheering the loudest!”
She ended her message with a Bible verse from 2 Corinthians 4:16-17: “So we do not faint; although our outer self is fading away, our inner self is being renewed daily, for this light and temporary suffering is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory that no comparison can compare.”
Before the injury, Bo Nix had already thrown for 279 yards, completed 26 of 46 passes, and accounted for three touchdowns with one interception during his second playoff game.
After the Broncos secured their spot in the AFC Championship against the Patriots, head coach Sean Payton announced that Nix would require season-ending surgery.
“He’s a tough player,” Payton said. “I told him, ‘You’re only the second quarterback to lead a team to the championship game as a sophomore – the other being [Patrick] Mahomes.’ This team has lost important players throughout the season. We have to rise to the next challenge and keep moving forward.”
Jarrett Stidham is set to take over as the starting quarterback for the upcoming AFC Championship game.
Izzy is friends with Stidham’s wife, Kennedy, who also reflected on the emotional ups and downs of Saturday’s game.
“It was quite the whirlwind of emotions after last night’s game,” she posted on her Instagram Story. “In the end, I’m incredibly proud of these boys and what they’ve achieved thus far. Do it ten times!!!”
Izzy and Bo married in 2022, two years before he was drafted by the Broncos as the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
In October, the couple shared that they are expecting their first child.
The AFC title game is set for Sunday in Denver at 3 p.m.
