Bill Maher Critiques Golden Globes for Snubbing Joe Rogan

Bill Maher has taken aim at the Golden Globes, referring to the awards as “fucking self-righteous assholes” for overlooking Joe Rogan in the newly established Best Podcast category. He characterized the nominees as “super woke people.”

These comments came during a discussion with comedians Dana Carvey and David Spade on the latest episode of his podcast, “Club Random.” Maher highlighted the exclusion of Rogan’s widely popular podcast while noting that Amy Poehler’s podcast, “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” received a nomination. Interestingly, Rogan’s show consistently ranks higher than Poehler’s on various platforms.

Maher pointed out that “The Joe Rogan Experience” holds the top spot on Spotify, sitting at third on Apple Podcasts and also performing well on YouTube. In contrast, Poehler’s podcast doesn’t even make the top ten.

“Did you see that the Globes had a podcast category?” Maher asked, expressing disbelief at the nominees. “They just nominated like super woke people.”

“Getting Along with Amy Poehler” went on to win the first-ever Best Podcast award, beating out other shows like Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” and Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy.”

“I mean, Joe Rogan wasn’t nominated—obviously, it’s kind of popular,” the 69-year-old satirist remarked. Carvey chimed in, praising Rogan as “really good at what he does.”

“It may just speak to living in a blue sky bubble,” Maher added, alluding to the predominantly liberal perspective in Hollywood.

He urged the Golden Globe Foundation and Hollywood elites to “get out of their fucking bubble” and stop being “fucking smug bastards.”

Maher mentioned, “I want to be one of you. I’m one of you, but it’s very hard to advocate for you,” suggesting that Los Angeles has become “the epicenter of the problem.”

He attended the awards after receiving a nomination for his HBO special “Is Anybody Else Seeing This?”—his first nomination in several years.

“We used to get nominated in all sorts of areas, and then people started thinking we were conservative, which was ridiculous,” Maher reflected.

He then mentioned a “soft cancellation” he experienced, while Ricky Gervais won the award for best stand-up comedy on television.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been nominated for a role. I think this suggests we’re coming out of wokeness… I see it as a win that they couldn’t ignore how good that special was,” Maher stated.

Carvey humorously noted he was labeled a “Nazi” for being a Bill Clinton-era liberal in the ’90s. Spade added that he’s now considered “far right,” jokingly calling him a “white supremacist.”

Maher concluded that his comedic work critiques the left, saying, “The left has done more stupid things in the last five to ten years. And I’m a comedian. I go where the money is, and I make fun of it.” He also referenced the recent shooting of Renee Good by ICE agents, noting how celebrities use such events for political gestures on the red carpet.

With a laugh, he remarked, “You know, it was a terrible thing that happened, and it shouldn’t have happened. But I don’t need to put a pin on it.”
