Donald Trump maintains pressure in his pursuit of acquiring Greenland

Trump’s Ongoing Interest in Greenland

President Donald Trump has been vocal about his desire for the United States to acquire Greenland. Early Tuesday, he reiterated his stance on the matter.

In a post on Truth Social, he shared, “I had a very good phone conversation with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte regarding Greenland. We agreed to meet in Davos, Switzerland. As I’ve said before, Greenland is critical to both national and global security. There’s no turning back on this—everyone is in agreement!”

Trump is also set to address the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting on Wednesday.

Concerns About National Security

In a recent message, the President expressed that the U.S. must move away from notions of “pure peace,” especially in the context of managing green spaces.

In another post, he shared an image that seemingly showed Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance holding an American flag beside a sign labeling Greenland as “2026 Eastern U.S. Territory.”

Trump criticized the United Kingdom for planning to transfer Diego Garcia Island, a key U.S. military base, to Mauritius, calling it a senseless decision.

“Ceding such essential land would be a grave mistake for the UK. This also supports the many reasons we’ve got for acquiring Greenland. Denmark and its European allies need to take this seriously,” he asserted.

Last week, Trump issued a warning about potential tariffs while continuing to pursue the Greenland acquisition.

Impending Tariffs and Further Stipulations

He announced, “Starting February 1, 2026, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland will face a 10% tariff on all goods sent to the United States. By June 1, 2026, that tariff will rise to 25%. This will remain in effect until an agreement is reached. We need to buy Greenland completely and without conditions.”

January 20 marks the one-year anniversary of Trump’s presidency, which began on January 20, 2025.
