How Does Savannah Guthrie’s Voice Sound Following Her Vocal Cord Surgery?

Savannah Guthrie Updates Fans After Voice Surgery

Savannah Guthrie made an appearance on Today to share some uplifting news following her recent departure from the NBC talk show for voice surgery.

On Tuesday’s broadcast, she joined her co-anchors while holding a whiteboard to communicate with them.

“We’re definitely going to miss Savannah as she takes time to recover from her vocal surgery,” said Jenna Bush Hager while announcing her return. “Though she’s resting her voice, she looks absolutely stunning.”

As Guthrie communicated through writing, she surprised everyone by showcasing her “new voice.”

“I’m still in recovery but allowed to talk for just five to ten minutes every hour,” she shared. “This is my new voice—or maybe my old voice, but a fresh version!”

Back in December, Guthrie revealed she would be stepping away from the show for surgery to remove nodules and polyps on her vocal cords.

Both Shinelle Jones and Craig Melvin remarked on how good her voice sounded, with Melvin noting there had been “noticeable improvement.” Guthrie had mentioned that the surgery aimed to fix issues she had faced for “years.”

“The encouraging news is that it worked. I know Shinelle has gone through this too, and recovery takes time,” she explained to her colleagues. “I can talk, but if I overdo it, that can be risky for me, so relaxing is key.”

Carson Daly jokingly asked if she had “test-driven” her new voice by yelling at her kids, to which Guthrie confessed she had.

“We’ll see how it goes during the long weekend,” she said, noting that her husband, Mike, had to travel for work. “It felt like we finally had some family time.”

Guthrie also touched on her plans for returning to the show, stating, “I think I’ll be back next Monday. But I’ll come by on Friday to share a bit about my experience.”

Melvin humorously noted that she gives them a fifth of her limited speaking time each day, leading to some lighthearted banter about how much of that time she was “giving away.”

“I’m really going to miss you all,” the long-time NBC host said to her colleagues as she wrapped up her segment, hinting at a swift return to Today.
