ICE Continues Arrests of Illegal Immigrants in Minnesota
Thanks to Operation Metro Surge, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is actively making arrests throughout Minnesota. Recent detentions include illegal immigrants convicted of serious offenses such as murder, domestic violence, and DUI.
“Amid increasing violence, our law enforcement has arrested individuals including a murderer, a drug trafficker, and an illegal immigrant with 24 convictions in Minneapolis,” stated Tricia McLaughlin from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Some of those arrested recently include Hien Quoc Thai, an illegal immigrant from Vietnam who was convicted of murder, and Brian Anjain from the Marshall Islands, who has a staggering 24 prior convictions ranging from assault to public drunkenness and trespassing.
McLaughlin expressed concerns about what she perceives as a lack of accountability from local leaders, saying, “These are the criminals that Governor Walz and Mayor Frey are protecting. No American wants these individuals as their neighbors.”
Other individuals apprehended by ICE in Minnesota consist of:
- Pedro López Brito, from Guatemala, convicted of assault with intent to cause serious injury and drug possession, previously charged with aggravated assault.
- Yadrian Leyva Leyva, an illegal resident from Cuba, with convictions for theft, forgery, identity theft, and possession of forgery tools.
- Eddy Sor Lares, a Venezuelan immigrant found guilty of drug conspiracy involving over five kilograms of cocaine.
- Hugo Ricardo Vicente Che Ba, a Guatemalan national convicted of domestic violence.
- Luis Angel Marquez Real, from Mexico, with a conviction for disorderly conduct and past charges for drug possession.
- Martinus Dawid Kunneke from South Africa, who violated a court restraining order and has multiple prior convictions including domestic violence.
- Marlon Leyva Orellana, a Honduran illegal immigrant, with convictions for criminal damage and DUI, facing additional serious charges like robbery and kidnapping.
- Jose Daniel Valdez Garcia from Mexico, who was convicted of fraud.
- Lujan Alejandro Lazaro Ortega, a Venezuelan national convicted of violating a court order.
- Ionat Pedro Dumitru from Romania, charged with grand theft and contributing to delinquency.
DHS officials report that roughly 2,500 undocumented immigrants with criminal records have been arrested in Minneapolis.
Officials are urging Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey to transfer about 1,400 illegal immigrants currently in custody to ICE, noting that around 500 have been released due to local authorities’ lack of cooperation.
