Justice Department Issues Subpoenas to Minnesota Officials
Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have reportedly received subpoenas from the Justice Department. These subpoenas are said to connect to an investigation involving obstruction by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to reports by Fox News, both Walz and Frey confirmed receiving their subpoenas during a conversation with KMSP-TV. In a related social media post, Walz referenced President Donald Trump, mentioning, “Mr. President, please see Minnesota’s values in action.” He further elaborated on how various communities are uniting, expressing a rejection of division.
In a firm statement, Walz drew attention to the context of this investigation, describing it as emerging from “violence, chaos, and calls for accountability for the murder of Renee Good.” He labeled the Justice Department’s actions as a “partisan diversion,” emphasizing Minnesota’s commitment to doing what is right.
The subpoenas aim to obtain records and communications regarding the influx of federal workers into Minnesota. Additionally, subpoenas were sent to St. Paul Mayor Kaoli Herr, who has previously disclosed her undocumented immigrant status, and officials from both Ramsey and Hennepin Counties.
Frey expressed concern over the federal government allegedly using its authority to intimidate local leadership. He stated, “We should not live in a country where individuals are afraid that federal law enforcement will be weaponized against them for political motives.” He reiterated that Minneapolis will stand firm in its principles and continue to prioritize community safety.
Walz went on to highlight the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Renee Goode’s death, calling for accountability rather than political motivations from the federal government. He asserted, “Minnesota will not be intimidated into silence, and neither will I.”
