Juan Alvarado Aguilar charged with deadly drunk driving incident, facing ICE hold

A man in Rowan County, North Carolina, has been charged with felony offenses after allegedly driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a student-athlete and his girlfriend. The accused, Juan Alvarado Aguilar, 37, is currently detained with bail set at over $5 million. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide and driving while impaired.

According to local reports, Aguilar was arrested following the late-night accident, which happened when he crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle, as noted by the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since issued a detention warrant against him.

The crash resulted in the deaths of 20-year-old Fletcher Mark Daniel Harris and 19-year-old Skyler Nicole Provenza. Harris was behind the wheel and was a student-athlete at Catawba College, where he played on the men’s soccer team. Tragically, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Harris had been a student at Catawba College for three years while pursuing dual degrees in environment and sustainability, as well as biology. He was frequently recognized on both the President’s Honor Roll and the Dean’s List. The university expressed deep condolences and described him as a beloved member of the community.

Alex Morais, the men’s soccer head coach, conveyed the team’s sorrow, stating, “Fletcher was deeply loved and will be missed by everyone in our program and community.” The local community has also come together to honor the couple, describing them as kind-hearted individuals who made a significant impact on the lives around them.

Harris’ family shared their memories, calling him “one of the finest human beings” they had ever known, while Provenza was remembered as a “beautiful soul.” There are plans for Harris’ funeral to take place this Thursday. Fox News Digital has attempted to reach ICE for a comment but has not received a response yet.
