David Wright’s Increasing Hall of Fame Vote Share
David Wright is gaining traction among Hall of Fame voters, especially now that he has more time available.
According to the latest tally released for the 2026 Baseball Hall of Fame class, the former Mets captain’s vote share has risen to 14.8 percent.
Carlos Beltrán and Andrew Jones managed to reach the 75% mark, securing their induction.
For context, last year, Wright only garnered 8.1% of the votes during his second time on the ballot.
Candidates remain eligible for up to a decade, provided they earn at least 5% of the vote each year. In his initial year on the ballot, Wright received just 6.2%.
Interestingly, Andrew Jones had a modest start as well, getting only 7.3% in his first year but steadily climbing over the years; this year marked his ninth appearance.
Looking at his peers, Scott Rolen received a mere 10.2% upon his first year but was eventually inducted in his sixth.
Wright’s path to stardom, however, was abruptly interrupted due to injuries—most notably, he struggled with spinal stenosis, leading to his early retirement before completing his eight-year contract with the Mets.
On a positive note, Beltrán’s induction makes him the sixth player from Puerto Rico to enter the Hall of Fame, joining icons like Roberto Alomar and Roberto Clemente. As of now, Puerto Rico shares the distinction of having the highest number of Hall of Fame players alongside Cuba.
In contrast, Manny Ramirez was looking to make one last push for Hall of Fame recognition but could only muster 38.8% of the votes in his final appearance on the ballot. His chances were likely hindered by two suspensions for performance-enhancing drug violations.
Felix Hernández, meanwhile, is in his second year on the ballot and received 46.1% of the vote. Historically, candidates with 43% or better in their second year often get inducted eventually.
Looking ahead, first-time eligible players for the 2027 ballot include Buster Posey, Jay Bruce, Jon Lester, and Kyle Seager. 2028 will see newcomers like Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, David Price, and Stephen Strasburg joining the ranks.
