Minnesota Democrats who got DOJ subpoenas claim the justice system is being misused.

Subpoenas Target Minnesota Officials in Federal Investigation

Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota, who have received subpoenas as part of a federal investigation concerning alleged obstruction of immigration enforcement, claim that the justice system is being misused against them.

The recent subpoenas, issued by the Justice Department and FBI, were served to various government offices, including those of the governor, the attorney general, and the mayor of Minneapolis.

“Just under two weeks ago, a Minnesotan was shot and killed by federal agents in broad daylight. Now, rather than addressing the murder of Renee Good, President Trump is using the judicial system against leaders who stand against him,” stated Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. He noted that his office had been summoned for documents relating to federal immigration enforcement.

FBI Director: No Officials Are Exempt from Investigation

Ellison emphasized, “Let’s be clear: Donald Trump is targeting the people of Minnesota, and I will not be intimidated or deterred from protecting them from this retribution.” He added a commitment to continuing his work despite the pressure.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz remarked, “Minnesota will not be drawn into political theater.” He characterized the investigation, which follows the violent death of Good, as a partisan distraction. Walz expressed that safety and accountability should take precedence over tactics that intimidate public servants.

“My focus has always been on the well-being of our citizens, not on personal safety. Families are feeling anxious, and local businesses are suffering. The energy of the federal government should be aimed at rebuilding trust and real law enforcement, not political payback,” he stated, assuring that Minnesota would not be silenced.

White House Responds to State Officials

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey argued, “Every American should be worried about federal overreach that seeks to silence local leaders.” He criticized the notion of using federal power for political suppression.

The White House, through spokesperson Abigail Jackson, countered the criticisms, saying that it was ironic for Walz to complain about division when he has previously labeled federal agents as the “Gestapo” and claimed Minnesota was “at war” with the federal government.

Jackson added, “Tim Walz should stop defending criminal illegal aliens and collaborate with the Trump administration to remove these dangerous individuals from society.”
