DHS claims undocumented immigrant 'rammed law enforcement' during a California operation, agent discharged weapon

Federal agents fired shots on Wednesday after an undocumented individual in Southern California allegedly used his vehicle to confront law enforcement while trying to escape arrest, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security.

This incident occurred in Compton during a targeted operation aimed at capturing William Eduardo Moran Carballo, a violent criminal and undocumented immigrant from El Salvador. Carballo has a history of involvement in human smuggling and has previously been arrested for harming his partner.

A spokesperson for DHS stated that during this dangerous situation, the individual had a weapon in his vehicle and rammed into law enforcement. Officers, fearing for their safety, discharged their weapons in defense.

Although Carballo was not hit and attempted to flee on foot, he was eventually apprehended. Fortunately, he was unharmed, though one Border Patrol officer suffered an injury.

DHS highlighted that the situation surrounding Carballo is still developing and mentioned that an immigration judge had ordered his removal in 2019.

The spokesperson noted an alarming rise in violent attempts to evade arrest, attributing it partly to policies encouraging undocumented immigrants to avoid law enforcement. They reported a staggering 3,200% increase in vehicle-related attacks on officers.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department acknowledged the incident, which took place on 126th Street in unincorporated Los Angeles. They indicated that at around 7:25 a.m., an appeal was made for traffic control by the Century Police Department, clarifying that the Sheriff’s Office was not directly involved.

This story is still developing; further updates are anticipated.
