Errors in Quoting Trump by Washington Post
The Washington Post made two incorrect quotes from President Donald Trump in an article published on Tuesday. One misquote suggested Trump referred to the National Guard as the “bad guys.” In reality, he was indicating that “the bad guys” wouldn’t want to engage with them. Another misquote claimed he said ICE agents occasionally make mistakes because they are “unruly people.” What he actually said was that ICE “deals with unruly people.”
A correction in the article acknowledged the first misquote, stating that Trump meant, “These are big, strong guys, so the bad guys are going to look at them and say, we’re not going to mess with them.”
The second quote involving ICE agents has yet to be amended. The article quoted Trump discussing ICE, suggesting that they might be overly forceful at times. He mentioned, “They’re going to make mistakes sometimes and they’re going to be too rough with somebody. You know they’re rough people.”
While discussing administration policies for nearly two hours at a press conference, Trump stressed the agency’s work. He highlighted investigations into criminal illegal aliens accused of serious offenses, despite the media and some Democrats alleging mistreatment by ICE.
As of now, The Washington Post has not responded to inquiries regarding these errors.
