Sports Commissioners Meeting with Trump for America’s 250th Anniversary
Commissioners from the four major sports leagues—NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB—are reportedly set to meet with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office next week. This meeting seems to be aimed at unveiling plans for the upcoming 250th anniversary celebrations of the United States.
Among those expected to attend are NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. It’s worth noting that the exact date of the meeting might change.
So far, neither the White House nor the sports leagues have responded to inquiries for comments.
This year’s “America 250” celebrations have a significant sports connection, highlighted by an announcement of a UFC fight scheduled for June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House. Additionally, Trump mentioned that the White House would host the “Patriot Games,” a four-day athletic event featuring high school athletes from across the nation, with one young man and one young woman representing each state and territory.
Interestingly, as part of the anniversary festivities, the NFL plans to engage in on-field promotions in November, using commemorative footballs that showcase the America 250 logo. They also hinted at engraving “USA 250” on the sidelines during playoff games and even having a special coin for the coin toss before kickoffs.
And let’s not forget—the FIFA World Cup is set to take place in the United States this summer, from June to mid-July, culminating in the finals at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Trump has been a regular at various sporting events since he took office for his second term. This includes attending Super Bowl XI in February 2025, the Ryder Cup in Bethpage, and the FIFA Club World Cup Finals. Most recently, he was at the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in Miami, where he watched the Indiana Hoosiers triumph over the Miami Hurricanes.
