Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett Advocates for Target Boycott
Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas recently expressed her support for a boycott against Target. She referred to the retailer as a company that “doesn’t want to work” with Black individuals, emphasizing the need for action against corporations that roll back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
During a conversation for COSIGN on Monday, Crockett highlighted the significance of resisting large companies like Amazon that are stepping back from DEI efforts. She urged more Black entrepreneurs to establish their own businesses and suggested that boycotts should be taken seriously. Target, in particular, became a focal point of her argument.
She remarked, “The idea of completely boycotting, I don’t think we’re good at that in this day and age,” yet she expressed hope that a boycott would negatively impact Target’s finances. “I would like to see their numbers go down,” she added.
Crockett pointed out that companies like Target benefit significantly from Black consumers, mentioning how they had initially made efforts to stock Black hair products. However, she voiced frustration at the company’s recent decisions, detailing how she felt disillusioned despite previous support for their Black cosmetic lines.
The push for a Target boycott has gained traction, especially following the company’s announcement to reduce DEI initiatives in 2025. This decision came after former President Trump signed an executive order that compelled federal agencies to eliminate DEI practices while nudging private enterprises to follow suit.
In coinciding events, an anti-ICE protest took place at a Target location in Minnesota, where demonstrators alleged that the store allowed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to operate from its parking lot.
In her comments, Crockett connected the Trump administration’s policies to “white supremacy,” stating that all aspects—whether they’re related to immigration, diversity efforts, or LGBTQIA rights—align with a broader agenda she believes is rooted in supremacy.
