Assault Incident at Gym Leads to Arrest
A woman named Aralyn Martinez, 24, was taken into custody after allegedly throwing a 25-pound weight plate at another woman, whom she believed was involved with her partner. This incident took place on January 7 at a 24 Hour Fitness gym near Spring, Texas.
According to a police report, Martinez recognized the other woman and shouted, “I’m going to drop this 25-pound plate on you,” before throwing the weight. Thankfully, the intended target managed to dodge the attack, avoiding serious injury.
Local Police Chief Juan Flores commented on the severity of the situation, noting that a weight of that size could be lethal depending on how it strikes someone. He made it clear that even though he doesn’t frequently use free weights himself, any weight can become a weapon in a moment of rage.
Witnesses at the gym stepped in to defuse the situation, preventing it from escalating further. After the incident, Martinez quickly left the scene but was later apprehended by authorities.
She has since been booked into the Harris County Jail and faces charges of aggravated assault, with a bond set at $1,000.
Her court appearance is set for January 22. Interestingly, during the bail hearing, the judge mentioned that alcohol might have played a role in the events leading up to the attack.
