Stupid, Lame, and Incredibly Dangerous
It can be really tempting to point fingers at the most extreme voices from either side of the political spectrum. I mean, yes, you could argue that they don’t represent the whole picture. But still, I think we should consider this: not everyone on the American left is a, let’s say, uninformed TikTok fan, yet there are certainly elements within that have gained a lot of influence. It’s kind of like how, post-US withdrawal from Iraq, a small, radical group managed to dominate the narrative, even though the majority of Iraqis disagreed with their approach.
Virginia’s new attorney general, Jay Jones, seems to embody some of this chaotic energy. He’s made headlines for some pretty reckless comments, like wishing for Republican kids to face dire consequences to justify dismantling the Second Amendment. It’s bewildering, really. He recently issued a press release about the legality of gerrymandering in Virginia and completely forgot to change the letterhead from his Republican predecessor.
Additionally, Jones repealed a federal consent decree that prevented undocumented immigrants from accessing in-state tuition. The overall idea is problematic—this could draw in lawbreakers—but the real kicker is that in the announcement image he posted, he misspelled “attorney.” Classic mistake.
These actions are steering us into murky waters. Jessica Anderson, a representative from Virginia, has introduced a rather controversial bill aimed at stopping the government from overseeing the operations of nonprofits. It’s being dubbed as the “Legalized Fraud” bill, and many people find it alarming since taxpayers’ money is involved.
It’s disheartening to see officials who can’t even articulate their roles or understand the basic definition of a woman. Power tends to change people, often in negative ways. When they finally grab the reins, they often burn the bridge they traveled to get there.
In the realm of bizarre political actions, one basement manager’s antics mirrored some troubling behavior of current figures. He reportedly went on his cell phone to threaten an ICE agent. The video went viral, showcasing this alarming mindset.
And speaking of troubling behavior, there are videos making rounds of someone promoting pro-Palestinian sentiments through musical performances. It’s hard to make sense of these moments, especially when liberal influencer Will Stancil was photographed engaging in a questionable publicity stunt while ICE was doing their job.
What’s troubling is that these behaviors aren’t isolated incidents. They seem to be becoming part of the norm within certain political circles, with some even advocating for laws that could significantly reshape society.
As a nation that sets trends globally, what happens here tends to spread. For instance, British health services are being called out for their acceptance of, let’s say, unconventional family dynamics, likely born out of a misguided sense of tolerance toward various cultures.
Simply put, stupid and reckless ideas can manifest into dangerous realities. When paranoia and self-righteousness fuse, it fuels a reckless group mentality that can lead to violence—a state of affairs that seems to be overlooked or even encouraged by some officials.
If you’re wary of safety, consider how a drunk, undocumented immigrant could cause catastrophic accidents; there have been real-life instances backing this up, with drivers avoiding deportation despite a troubling history.
It’s tough to wrap your head around it. Throughout history, uninformed and reckless individuals have never had more power. It’s a critical time, and I sincerely hope everyone stays safe.
