Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee held at LAX due to paperwork problem

Giants Outfielder Suspended for Paperwork Issues

John Hu Lee, a player for the San Francisco Giants, was briefly detained at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday due to what the team labeled a “paperwork issue.” Reports indicate that Lee was returning to the U.S. from his home in South Korea when he was stopped because he was missing some documentation.

Lee’s agent, Scott Boras, emphasized that the situation was “not political” and noted the player was released approximately an hour later once the paperwork was sorted out. “I don’t know exactly what was missing,” Boras mentioned, adding, “I think he just forgot one of the documents.”

The Giants later issued a statement confirming that Lee “experienced brief travel issues at LAX due to paperwork.” They expressed appreciation for the professionalism shown by everyone involved in the resolution of the matter.

Lee, who is 27 years old, signed a significant six-year contract with the Giants in December 2023, which was reportedly worth around $113 million. Last season, despite battling through injuries, he recorded a batting average of .266, with eight home runs, 55 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases over the course of 150 games. Unfortunately, the Giants missed the playoffs for the fourth year in a row, which is kind of frustrating, considering the expectations.

Overall, it seems like this little hiccup was just that—a minor setback in what has been a challenging journey for Lee. Let’s hope things smooth out for him moving forward.
