Nvidia CEO Highlights Job Opportunities in AI Era
Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, shared insights at the World Economic Forum in Davos about the promising job market expected to arise from the AI boom. He noted that skilled trade workers involved in constructing chip manufacturing plants, data centers, and other related facilities are likely to see considerable financial rewards, potentially achieving “six-figure salaries.”
According to Huang, the ongoing era represents unprecedented infrastructure development. He stated, “This is the largest infrastructure development in human history and will create many jobs.” He expressed enthusiasm over the fact that many of these positions will be in skilled trades, calling for a range of professions including plumbers, electricians, and construction workers.
Nvidia’s president pointed out a substantial rise in wages for these roles, with some compensation rates almost doubling. “We’re talking about six-figure salaries for people who are building chip factories or computer factories or AI factories,” he mentioned, observing a growing demand for these skilled positions.
Huang emphasized that high earning potential is not restricted to those holding advanced degrees. He advocated for a broader view, stating, “Everyone should be able to make a good living, and you don’t have to have a PhD in computer science to do that.”
When concerns were raised about AI potentially reducing entry-level job opportunities for young people, Minzatou expressed confidence in the youth’s ability to adapt. “I’m not really concerned about whether young people have the right skills,” she remarked.
This focus on skilled trades seems to align with evolving preferences among Gen Z, those born between 1997 and 2012. As traditional four-year college education becomes more costly—around a 30% increase from 2011 to 2023—professional pathways are becoming increasingly appealing to this generation.
