Amanda Anisimova Stands Firm at Australian Open Press Conference
Amanda Anisimova demonstrated her composure during a press conference at the 2026 Australian Open, effectively steering a conversation away from negative commentary about the United States. A reporter tried to press her on the perceived complications of representing the U.S. amid recent political events.
The reporter initiated by asking a broad question: “I’ve been gathering insights from various American players about their feelings playing under the U.S. flag. What’s your perspective?”
Anisimova quickly asserted her pride in representing her country. Ignoring the political angle, she focused on the positives: “I mean, I was born in America, so I’m always proud to represent my country. Yeah, a lot of us do really well.” She highlighted the success of both women’s and men’s athletes, expressing satisfaction with how they represent themselves and the nation.
Undeterred, the reporter pressed further, asking, “Does that feeling get complicated at all, considering everything that unfolded in America last year?”
Without missing a beat, Anisimova maintained her stance. She answered firmly, “I don’t think that’s relevant,” dismissing the attempt to delve into political matters.
Looking forward to the 2025 season, Anisimova is aiming high. As of January 2026, she anticipates reaching a career-high ranking of third in the world. Last year, she achieved notable success, winning consecutive Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon and the US Open, in addition to two WTA 1000 titles in Doha and Beijing.
