Upcoming Republican Primary Debate in Texas
On February 17 at the Granada Theater in Dallas, Allie Beth Stuckey, who hosts a podcast called “Relatable,” will moderate a Republican primary debate for Texas attorney general. This event is organized by the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA).
Stuckey will lead the conversation among candidates Joan Huffman, Mays Middleton, Aaron Reitz, and Chip Roy. Huffman and Middleton are serving in the Texas State Senate, while Reitz has formerly held the position of Assistant Attorney General in the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Policy. Roy represents Texas’ 21st Congressional District in Washington.
Expressing her excitement, Stuckey stated, “As a native Texan, I am deeply concerned about the future of our state and the leadership we elect. The Texas Attorney General has been pivotal in numerous legal matters across the country, making this issue significant not just for Texas but for the entire nation.” This debate marks the only occasion all Republican candidates will appear together before the primary on March 3.
There are also Democratic candidates in the race, including Tony Box, Joe Jaworski, and Nathan Johnson. Box is a military veteran venturing into politics for the first time, Jaworski is a former mayor of Galveston, and Johnson serves as a Texas state senator.
Adam Piper, RAGA Executive Director, mentioned that they are pleased to partner with Blaze Media for this event and highlighted Stuckey’s understanding of the issues at stake for the upcoming election cycle. He described the Texas primary as potentially the most costly attorney general election in U.S. history.
Piper went on to describe the Texas Attorney General’s role as crucial not only locally but also on a national level, emphasizing the office’s responsibilities in protecting citizens and upholding the law. He expressed enthusiasm for providing an opportunity for all attorney general candidates to engage with various Republican attorneys general.
Ken Paxton, the current Texas Attorney General, previously announced a Senate run against incumbent John Cornyn.
