Proposed Bill Targets Illegal Aliens and Driver’s Licenses

Arizona Congressman Andy Biggs is putting forward a new bill aimed at regulating illegal immigrants from acquiring commercial driver’s licenses.

The issue has come to light as many tragic incidents involving illegal alien truck drivers have occurred. These drivers often secure their CDLs in states with lax requirements regarding citizenship and employment. The situation was exacerbated during the Biden administration, which allowed millions of undocumented immigrants to enter the country over a brief period.

“They’re putting American lives at risk,” Biggs expressed regarding the current situation.

He believes that the VERIFY CDL Act could prevent further tragedies of this kind.

“The American people shouldn’t have to worry about the consequences of the border issues created by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris affecting our highways,” Biggs told Blaze News. “When the past administration ignored the entry of countless unidentified illegal aliens, it manifested a serious public safety threat that extends far beyond our borders.”

He emphasized, “As long as we haven’t addressed the issue of illegal aliens, it’s imperative for Congress to eliminate these hazardous loopholes. My VERIFY CDL Act guarantees that CDLs are given only to those legally permitted to work in the U.S.”

According to details from the bill, it mandates that applicants must have their employment verified through the E-Verify program before being granted a CDL. This would help close loopholes that have been exploited, thereby adding extra safeguards, as reported by Blaze News.

“Operating a commercial vehicle is not merely a right; it’s an enormous responsibility,” Biggs pointed out. “When states distribute CDLs without confirming a work permit, they’re compromising American safety. My legislation aims to rectify that situation.”

“If you’re authorized to work in the U.S., E-Verify will confirm it,” he stated firmly. “If you’re not, no way should you be driving a 40-ton vehicle.”

Biggs remarked that the ongoing issue of mass migration requires attention at all levels, including the distribution of commercial driver’s licenses.

“It’s really not that complicated,” he noted. “The consequences of failing to validate are evident—preventable fatalities, shattered families, and an undermined system.”

“One avoidable death is too many,” he concluded. “Congress must take action, and this bill addresses that need.”
