The Dillon Brothers Shine at Chaminade

The Dillon brothers, Kyle and Lucas, are making waves at Chaminade this season. With the Catholic League playoffs approaching, they’re leading the Flyers to an impressive run, and things are only going to ramp up as the season progresses.

“We have a solid grip on our situation,” Kyle, the senior guard with 1,000 points under his belt, said.

He mentioned that when he’s in a fast break, he looks for Lucas, his guard brother, to set him up for a big dunk.

Following significant victories over teams like St. Raymond and Holy Cross, both brothers are eager to bring home another championship banner to their gym in Mineola.

This isn’t their first rodeo; Kyle snagged a state title as a sophomore while his older brother Devin was a standout player during his senior year in 2024.

“Even if my brother doesn’t score, he changes the game completely,” Kyle noted, adding that their cousin Kieran also achieved 1,000 points at Chaminade before graduating in 2020.

“Devin always reminded me that contributing to the team goes beyond just putting up points,” Kyle shared, reflecting on his brother’s all-around impact.

Family Dynamic

As the older brother, Kyle has taken it upon himself to guide Lucas, who, in his first varsity season, has drawn attention from prominent schools like Notre Dame and Boston College.

“After each game, Lucas points out things I can improve, just like Devin used to do,” he said, acknowledging the influence of his older brother.

Kyle, committed to Wesleyan, sees Lucas grabbing more interest from scouts as time goes on.

“He’s really getting there. I mean, he can hold his own against me,” Kyle remarked, a hint of pride in his voice.

The brothers’ camaraderie pushes them both to better their skills.

“On Christmas, while other kids were opening gifts, we were out practicing,” Kyle recalled. “Dad was always there, no matter the weather, inspiring us to see that dedication pays off.”

Their father, Matt, has instilled a deep love for basketball in them and has taken the reins in coaching them through the years.

“These days, many kids have trainers, but for us, it was always Dad,” Kyle said.

Growing Influence

Devin continues to play a vital role in guiding the younger brothers, with his presence felt in everything they do.

“Kyle has routines he follows religiously before practice, and that comes from Devin,” said head coach Dan Feeney.

“Lucas is also adopting his own routine and taking it seriously,” Feeney observed, praising the younger brother’s commitment.

Devin, though away at the University of Buffalo, maintains close ties with his brothers, supporting and motivating them from afar.

“In our family chat, he commented on Lucas’s recent dunk, saying, ‘That was sick!'” Kyle remembered, noting how Devin’s leadership drives him to step up.

Feeney feels that the Dillon legacy continues to grow stronger, with each brother elevating the level of play.

“Kyle was initially the standout, but now, looking back, Lucas has developed remarkable talent and is clearly following Kyle’s path,” he noted.

Regardless of how the upcoming playoffs unfold, the Dillon family will undoubtedly remain a cherished part of Chaminade’s basketball story.

“My only issue with them is that they seem to be sticking with just three kids,” Feeney joked.
